Career development is an ongoing process and mine has never been linear or static.
It’s holistic – knowing yourself, experiencing or exploring, developing individual strategies, and learning to navigate
As an educator, the career development role can also be to advocate and promote best practices such as inclusion and diversity
Both my personal and professional experiences have influenced my career path. I have completed three degrees, each at different stages of my life. This journey was non-conventional in the sense that I was a young mom during my two bachelor degrees and a proud grandma when I completed my graduate program.
I completed the Master of Education program at TRU exactly one year ago. This experience helped me understand, question, and articulate my education beliefs and practices. As a cumulative assignment, I worked on a Final Research project that involved Ethics Approval from TRU. This project was extremely rewarding because it was relevant to my current work, it was experiential (incorporated photovoice, a qualitative methodology), and it involved students. I am sharing both my research paper and presentation below.

It’s one thing to be a student when life is less cluttered with everything. To be a student when this is a fully conscious decision, in the midst of a very full life already, is an act of courage and vision. I wanted to write to you today, on convocation day for Fall 2020, to recognize the strength and success illuminated by your graduation today, Leanne. I offer my full congratulations to you. Your studies and research have been so purposeful, and enlightening. Thank you for taking on this journey, and for the role model you have been to us all for the importance of life-wide learning. Have a wonderful day of celebration. We are all so thrilled at your achievement.
